Report – CITCO round 3 – Preisch – 24 May 2017

17 Frogs and a guest were met by Starter Hoppy on the 1st tee of Preisch in perfect weather conditions….at this stage all were looking forward to some great golf and good scores (ha). Hoppy laid on the beers (Richard) and went that bit extra with gin and tonic…fantastic! Just the start the FROGS needed on a very hot evening. There was some consternation on the first when it was noted by some of the more “detailed focused” FROGS that the handicaps seemed to have changed since the last round (no names here Peter B). In the end it was a point well taken as due to a computer blip there had been some overzealous reductions.

The golf, unlike the Europa league final, was a game of 2 halves for a number of players. Steve “the bomb” Brown was +1 after 6 and then managed to scratch the last 3 holes… Hope that slice is fixed for the next matchplay Steve. There was a similar story for Ayzo our “don’t watch the final as it will be 2-0 to Ajax” Dutchman. He hit some fantastic shots in the opening 5 holes to take Nearest the pin, quote “beating Dennis by a mile”. He continued his good form staying level par until the 5th where his golf slowed down somewhat. It was also where he joined the party in front after having had to play solo due to late cancellations… luckily there is nothing more trustworthy than a Dutch tax lawyer.

The Preisch greens were in very good condition but scoring was not quite as good as anticipated. The standard scratch for the night was 15 and Congratulations go to Simon Baker as the winner of the evening, with a very fine 16. He was closely followed by a cluster of FROGS on 15 points with Peter Baxter taking 2nd on countback, followed by Steve Kaiser, Ayzo, Jess and Joost.

The other prizes on the night went to Ayzo and Jess for NTP. The Leary went to James and LD to Craig……

The best and worst guest went to Martin Shapiro with 9 points.

Last but not least the Pink ball … as always this was hotly contested but in the absence of Frank, Steve B took the honours with 8 points.

The next round is on 31 May at Junglinster where Neil Underwood will be your starter. Good luck.
Mark
