Final results 2010

Please find attached the final standings for the 2010 FROGS / CITCO GRAND PRIX….many thanks to Luc and Citco for their past, present and future support!

Many thanks to our other sponsors – Dennis at KPMG, Bart at SHRM, the deVere guys (thanks to Steve Kaiser) and also to Phillip Zimmer at Golf USA, and also to Mark Gillies for hosting / sponsoring the website!

Also, thanks to those of you who gave up your time to act as starters or dinner co-ordinators or simply passed on your thoughtful ideas to the Frogmittee….

Jess is the Champion for 2010, he has been cut so badly (1.3) he will not return to winning ways until 2014….Craig is our first member to be cut to zero (0.0)….congratulations to you both!

Who will face the reapers wrath and axe next season i hear you ask?

Well for starters, anyone with a handicap of 12.5 or above will be cut to 12.4 before the start of next season! Congratulations to you all!

Ah well, fond memories and all that…and let’s hope the winter passes very quickly….

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to us all!

Forza FROGS!!!!

CITCO Grand Prix – results round 8

Many thanks to our sponsors CITCO, this event will take a long time to be forgotten….and thanks to CRAIG FERREIRA for starter duties!

Congratulations to all of the golfers who played last night…..and thanks to RUPERT Nine Points and MARK Eight Points HOUSTON for also adding a certain “je ne sais quoi” to the evening! Weather was excellent and the course was in great condition and the scoring was equally impressive….

DUNCAN played great golf (apart from the par 3’s) and scored a very impressive 20 points….and could not get onto the podium!

On the night JOHAN came home in first place with 22 pts, knocking MERVE into second spot with 21 pts and NICK MONTAGUE winning third place on countback with 20 pts.

JESS hit a monster to take the long drive and JOHNNY SUTHERLAND hit a beauty to claim the nearest to the pin.

Well done to all the prize winners! The handicap committee have been swishing and swooshing all day!

In the RACE TO DUCAL 2010…(for comparative purposes, CRAIG won with a score of 80 points last year).

Up to 83 points is JOHNNY HILL, leading by one point from JESS HAVE – and JESS cannot play in the remaining two events.

MERVE has moved up to third on 79, FRANK SCHLECK MAITRY must have had problems with his chain and remains on 78. CRAIG and BOTTY are hanging on with 77 points, although both players will play the remainder of the season with a 1 handicap! JOHAN is the late mover, he is dangerously sitting on 72 points which includes a 5 pointer!

In the SHRM WORLD MATCHPLAY….thanks BART !

Nick Monty v Mark Gillies and Johnny Hill v Merve Herneman must get their games played toot sweet otherwise there will be tears…

However, the other semi final is clear….Del Boy representing Scotland will take on Jerry Grbic representing Luxembourg!

DEL BOY THRASHED PAUL GOES 3&1 LAST NIGHT!

ROUND 9 is on August 11th at Canach, and i think Merve or Johan will be our starter…. I may be wrong of course….

CIAO FOR NOW!

deVere Frogs Pairs competition

What a splendid evening…many thanks to Steve K and Mark and Paul for last nights event…an excellent evening of wine, weather and wonderful golf. Fabulous prizes too!

As some of you believe deVere is a golf course company, maybe corporate brochures should be issued – Mark / Paul?

Congratulations to our Golfaholic guests…22pts and winners of the best guest prize!

In the main event though;

Tim Tobin found the centre of his driver, and with a probability of just 0.002547 he also found the fairway….and won himself the Longest Drive prize, well done Tim!
Johan Terblanche hit the centre of his 6 iron at the 7th and then holed an 8 footer for birdie…a deserving winner of the Nearest to the Pin.

The handicaps of the above two golfers must be too high, but am powerless to cut them, needless to say i have a new mission in life!

Some rubbish scores were handed in, but there were five scores in the 20’s…which suggests good golf…

Craig and Nick (lovely couple) managed to secure 5th place, by finishing weaker than Dave Winters and Ian Davy (Ian forgot to thank Dave for contributing at one hole, so i will take this opportunity)….meaning in third place;
Johan and Del Boy Trotter with 20pts.

In second place;
Ian Doherty and Ernest Foy with 21pts.

Winners (for the second time)
Johnny Hill and Paul Goes on 22pts.

I played with the winners and it pains me to say, they played great golf, there said it…proves there is no hard feelings!

Johnny holed a bunker shot at the fourth for birdie, Paul and Johnny then took it in turn to par the other holes…only two bogeys on their card!

Brilliant evening, thanks deVere, the wine on the first tee and after the ninth green should be a regular event!

Two miniature Volkswagen Golfs were handed to Jess Have and Stéphane Ayache…both should have spent yesterday evening at Top Squash – NINE POINTS

See you on Tuesday, when our starter Steve, and past starters Ernest and Willem are due to collect free meals!

Results from round 7 of Race to Grand Ducal

The weather was wet and windy if you teed off early, from 6pm onwards it was lovely though….hope you early golfers have dried out….

Ernest (our starter) took the big prize on countback from Del Boy with 19pts, and Steve Brown collected third prize on 18 pts. Fantastic scoring, the handicapping agency apologise profusely for this outrage, their cards have been marked!

Longest was Jess and nearest was Steve B…well done to the prize winners, and a big thank you to our starter and our beloved sponsors….all hail Citco!!!

Round 8 is 27th July (YES IT IS A TUESDAY) and Craig Lambourghini Ferrari will be the starter….

Current status at the top is;
Jess leads by one point from Frank Maitry with Johnny Hill a little short of the mark….the rest of us have some work to do (Johan – i mean golf) if we are to catch these boys!

SHRM WORLD MATCHPLAY

Jerry Grbic is thru to the Semis, well done…his 8 points on Wednesday night was more than enough to knock out Johan.

He will be joined by;
Monty or Gillies.
Johnny Hill or Uncle Merve.
Del Boy or Paul Goes.

The SHRM golf balls are certainly producing some excellent scoring, no need for Pro V 1’s next year Bart !

Bart our (quiet, shy and nearly retired) sponsor is offering a chance of a lifetime to the winner, his executive cottage in the wilderness of Newfoundland….suitable for good golfers and flyfisherman, (who have all been knocked out).

The trophy is just a further reward to the all conquering champion, and Monty is bidding for a repeat of his 2009 success.

de VERE PAIRS

Next week sees the FROGS / de VERE Pairs event….we have a strong turn out with some more Golfedoutalcoholics threatening to play (I will ensure society handicaps are adhered to)….still some early tee times available, although watch out for wind and rain between 5pm and 6pm!

Thanks to our new sponsors….WOODGE is unavailable to defend his halve of the title, so who can wrestle the trophy from the 8 times champions Steve the Daddy Kaiser? (Not me, am playing with Merve).

KEEEEEPPP FROOGGGGINNNN

Race to Ducal – round 5

Round 5 took place at Golfclub Saarbrücken. 19 Frogs played a course in great condition.

Winner was Dave Winters on 17 pts with Craig Ferreira as runner up on 16 pts. The night’s starter, Jonathan Hill, took advantage of Alan Botfield’s absence and soared into the lead of the Race to Ducal by scoring third place and 16 pts.

Nearest to pin was Craig Ferreira and longest drive Dave Winters. Dennis Robertson claimed the worst score with 7 pts.

The updated leaderboard will be posted shortly.

Next event is in two weeks the 29 June at Junglinster.

And they are of and running

A few accidents on the practice laps reduced the field to 35 members and 2 guests on the Grand Ducal Circuit (the short, bumpy and sandy forest track)…

6 players had engine problems….with Marco just making it off the grid with a rather disappoining 5 pts – a lovely pink golf ball and a FROG fly swat is waiting for you!
Patch, Steve K, Dave Winters, Dennis (the Lord of Montrose) and Ian Doherty must have had the wet tyres or….or maybe just lack the talent which the rest of us FROGs have!

Twas a lovely evening, especially for Jess Have…started with a birdie, ended with a birdie, and wasn’t too bad in between…had the Longest Drive, the Nearest to the Pin….and 19pts!
Our first 2010 Grand Prix winner…..and the Land Rover leads the constructors championship at this early stage.

Beaten on the countback was Tim Tobin, the best starter the Frogs have ever had (in 2010)….he even finished in daylight….sadly his entertaining Adolf Hitler impersonation on the last (two shots in bunker) cost him the top podium prize….when Adolf was touring Luxembourg he joined the Golfaholics, not a lot of people know that…..

A whole host of (four) players tied on 18 pts….i did stick to the rules, despite the fact Tony Nightingale came in third, AND he plays off the ladies tees, and probably wears knickers too….
Good news though, as Mark the Gillies didn’t get the prize….neither did Colin Fraser or Jonny Hill….they got a sleeve of Pro V1x’s instead.

Best Guest was a sponsors invite – Hans van de Sanden on 12 pts….obviously not having to supervise me in the office has improved his golf game! Graham Paul narrowly missed out…

Many thanks again to Citco, our beloved sponsors, for giving us a reason to meet up, play golf, eat and drink together….2010 has got off to a great start!

Thanks also to SHRM, our Matchplay sponsors….first results are in….Craig bt Stefano 2&1, Johan bt Luc 1up….thanks also to the tailor of that fine green jacket, worn by Mr d’Ancona himself.

See you on the course,

Grrrr

CITCO final standings 2009 and result of round 10

Dear all,

Thanks to our great sponsors Citco for another magical Citco Grand Prix season. (please clap your hands).

What a finale…..well done Ian Doherty, winning on the night and moving into third place in the order of merit.
Steve Brown was beaten on countback (18 pts) which meant Johnny Sutherland with 17pts was fourth, losing out to Mark Gillies on countback (Aussies are used to finishing third – eg Tri Nations) i guess the Ashes wasn’t that bad a result after all.

Dave Hopwood Biggar picked up the worst score prize yet again….even Johnny Sutherland was heard commenting “Hoppy is really sh1t at this game, he should take a lesson or give it up”.

Ian Davy hit a glorious nearest the pin shot….nearly beaten by Stuart Rowlands, if only a few more worms stuck their head up around 30metres from the green….anyway, Botfield smashed the longest drive.

In the order of merit decider, Alan Botfield needed to shoot 16pts to tie Craig Ferreira….with three holes remaining, Botfield needed three pars to win outright….but made only one par….Craig won on 80, Botfield second on 79, Ian D third on 78, and Gillies and Brown finished on 77…Goes and Winters 76, Tim van Dijk, Fred Sudret and Adrian Roadway on 75….Luc de Citco and KPMG Dennis on 74…

3 club challenge (two clubs and a putter) is back at Grand Ducal on Thursday 3rd Sept…we need a starter….apply within!

KPMG individuals is on Saturday 19th, Mr David Winters will be your starter (9.30 – 11am at Canach).

FROGs dinner is at Villa d’Este 8pm on Sept 19th after the individuals…let Nick Montague know if you are coming and if you are bringing a partner….

Let’s finish the season in style….i want you all to make a very special effort in your dress code for the three club challenge, otherwise Paolo Tarakdjian will win the best dressed player of the year award….

That’s pretty much it guys….congrats to Craig and the prize winners….

CITCO final results 2009

Halfway stage results from the CITCO Grand Prix 2009

Delayed information as the webmaster was not informed…

Quoting Mr Botfield:
“Well done to all participants in Saarbrucken last night…what a fantastic meal….well done Jonny Hill for an excellent trip !!!!

Last night was the half way stage of the CITCO Grand Prix (see attached leaderboard, yep it’s Botfield on Top)….many thanks to our beloved sponsors, it’s brewing up for another tight end of season battle and even Mr Biggar is still in the hunt….come on everyone, fantastic prizes and honours are still up for grab for all of us underachievers (that’s how Bart refers to us all)…..

Botfield found some form and scored 18 pts, narrowly beating Gillies 17 and Luc (also 17) into 2nd and 3rd place…with Frank (Nearest the Pin) leaving before the prize giving and Gillies winning the shortest ever Longest Drive, these prizes were subsequently awarded to Dennis (16) and Winters (15)…will give a sleeve of FROG balls and maybe a glove too to Frank next time out !!!

Last place went to the man who lost his wallet, Mr TIM TOBIN with 8 pts, but given his state of distress about the lost wallet, it was tempting to name and shame the 2nd worst player of the night (MR CRAIG FERREIRA “phone number deleted”) but of course the rules of this society means that i can’t give out that information…

A clean sweep of the only guest prize was performed with an amazing 18 pts from Serge Bijnens, who was suitably rewarded with a FROGs t-shirt and balls and in addition a one and half stroke cut to his handicap !!! Welcome back Serge !!!

No more FROG events in June, but unhook those caravans…round 6 of CITCO Grand Prix is on July 1st at Preisch and it will NOT be played on the German 9 !!! Round 7 is set for Junglinster on the 15th and Round 8 also Junglinster on the 29th !!!

In between we have the famous “LAB Pairs falling out with your partner if he is called Steve Brown” competition at Canach on 22nd) (Steve, will you be my partner again this year?) Sort yourself into pairs, you still have a few weeks to ditch one another…also the RYDER CUP will be held at Canach on the 25th…the FROGS have won it ONCE and it has been played for at least three times….it is our DESTINY….FREEDOM YA BAS !!!!
Sorry a wave of patriotism has swept me of my feet and filled my eyes with tears….maybe just hayfever…back to normal now…

Finally in the SHRM matchplay, one result from last night saw Botfield beating Gillies on the last hole…see schedule attached and get your ties played very soon as it is the holiday season coming up !!!!

Anything that i have forgotten is nothing to do with ignorance…but if it is due to sheer arrogance, then i don’t apologise for that !!!”

SHRM matchplay results

Results of second round of the CITCO Grand Prix 2009 at Preisch

Top man on the night was King Frog 2008, Mr Nick Montague with a fine 17pts, beating Stavros on countback. As Stavros could not take his place on the podium, his prize went to Craig Ferreira with 16pts….meaning the 4th place man for the second week running picked up a prize after all. Well done Duncan Tippin, just 15 pts and he now leads the way in the quest to become KING FROG 2009. Can you catch him?

Delboy hit his first drive just 3 metres….his second shot of the night was still behind the red tees….AND he still went on to win the Longest Drive prize.
Dennis Robertson amazed everyone, including himself, by hitting a fine tee shot on the 6th to win the Nearest the Pin prize.

Worst score on the night was Psycho Geoffreys, an astonishing 5 pts. A further prize was awarded to our young guest for playing in the FROGS, a sleeve of balls to Tom (just a kid) Darby.

2) The SHRM matchplay is nearing the end of Round 1 with another 5 results decided on the night.
A collapse from Psycho allows Frank Maitry to continue in the competition, Craig hammered Jess, Jonathan Hill overcame Ian Davy, Bart bullied Paolo and Alan Botfield finished off Neil Underwood on the last hole. Last week Nick knocked out Andrew, and from what i saw last night, Andrew is making a slow recovery….

Three first round matches still remain to be contested, Frank and Ayzo, Mark and Steve and Marco and Dave….the clock is ticking, get your results in as soon as possible !

Full results after week 2
